Maulana Abdul Aziz and Wife Entangled in Multiple Cases

Maulana Abdul Aziz

ISLAMABAD: Multiple cases have been registered against the former cleric of Lal Masjid, Maulana Abdul Aziz, and his wife under various sections of the law, including the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA), as confirmed by police on Wednesday.

These cases were lodged at the Aabpara police station, with one being filed against Maulana Abdul Aziz following a complaint by Constable Javaid Anjum.

The basis for this case stemmed from Maulana Aziz’s critical remarks about the armed forces during his sermon at Lal Masjid. According to the FIR, the cleric condemned the army and government based on his personal religious interpretations, which he subsequently propagated via social media platforms.

The intention, as stated in the FIR, was to promote the banned terrorist organization Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan and to incite terrorism by justifying it. Maulana Aziz was accused of attempting to undermine the morale of the army and incite rebellion within its ranks.

The FIR further alleged that his actions aimed to instill fear and terror among the public and law enforcement agencies while fostering division between various societal factions, including religious groups and security forces.

The second case was registered against Maulana Aziz’s wife, based on a complaint filed by ASI Abdul Qayyum.

The FIR outlined that ASI Qayyum had come across a video on social media featuring Umme Hassan, Maulana Aziz’s wife, in which she purportedly threatened the police and administration.

In the video, Umme Hassan asserted her opposition to cultural or musical events in Islamabad, even if authorized by the capital’s administration.

She was reported to have interfered in such events in the past and expressed her intent to continue doing so in the future, allegedly claiming to possess weapons, including a Kalashnikov.

These cases highlight the legal challenges faced by Maulana Abdul Aziz and his wife, indicating a complex situation involving allegations of terrorism-related activities and threats against law enforcement authorities.
