On Wednesday, Information Minister Attaullah Tarar launched a scathing attack on Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder Imran Khan, accusing him of orchestrating a drama for personal gain and hiring a lobbying firm for a Congress hearing.
Tarar’s remarks followed testimony from Donald Lu, the State Department’s top official for South and Central Asia, who refuted allegations of conspiracy against him during a congressional panel examining Pakistan’s democracy and its relations with the US.
Lu stated unequivocally that the accusations against him were false and urged Pakistani authorities to investigate any irregularities in the recent general election. In response, Tarar lambasted PTI for its anti-state actions, including riots and protests that disrupted talks with the International Monetary Fund (IMF). He criticized PTI for hiring lobbyists to malign Pakistan, asserting that the party’s leader had been exposed as a “certified liar” by Lu’s testimony.
Tarar highlighted the damage caused by PTI’s false narrative on the alleged conspiracy, noting that such actions had strained diplomatic relations. He accused Imran Khan of misleading the nation with claims of foreign interference, resulting in humiliation on a global scale.
