National Assembly Speaker Ayaz Sadiq has embarked on a significant drive for austerity measures, aimed at curbing unnecessary spending. Reports from sources close to the development indicate that Speaker Sadiq has personally spearheaded these cost-cutting efforts, demonstrating a strong commitment to fiscal responsibility.
As part of these measures, Speaker Sadiq has opted to return excess protocol, extra security, and has reduced staff allocations at the Speaker House. This initiative includes the return of six vehicles from the allocated squad and the reassignment of over 40 employees who were previously stationed at the Speaker House.
Sources reveal that among the reassigned employees, some had been deployed to the private and official residences of former speaker Raja Pervaiz Ashraf. Consequently, the Speaker House will now operate with a leaner staff, numbering around four to five employees, according to insider accounts.
Additionally, Speaker Sadiq has initiated a thorough review of expenditures from the current financial year’s budget. He has specifically requested details regarding expenses related to parliamentary delegations during the tenure of the previous speaker. Moreover, he has demanded comprehensive lists of employees recruited during the terms of former speakers Asad Qaiser and Raja Pervaiz Ashraf.
Sources within the National Assembly have confirmed that the speaker has issued directives to all departments to tighten their belts and reduce unnecessary expenditures.
A spokesperson for the assembly has affirmed that Speaker Ayaz Sadiq has opted out of unnecessary protocol and security measures, signaling a firm commitment to responsible budget management.
