ISLAMABAD: The Punjab government has implemented a precautionary measure by halting the visit of Ali Amin Gandapur, the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP), to Adiala Jail.
In a letter directed to the Deputy Secretary Judicial of KP, the Punjab Home Department cited security concerns as the basis for prohibiting interactions with the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder.
The correspondence stressed that given the current circumstances, it’s not advisable for the KP Chief Minister to proceed with the planned visit to Adiala Jail. Consequently, it urged the postponement of the visit, suggesting rescheduling to ensure the safety of all involved parties.
Earlier today, the Punjab Home Department imposed a ban on visits to prisoners and detainees at Adiala Jail, presumably due to recent security apprehensions.
This ban extends to meetings with Imran Khan, the PTI founder.
The department announced that on Tuesday, visitors were restricted from meeting any inmates at Adiala Jail, departing from the usual visitation procedures.
This decision was prompted by intelligence reports received by the Punjab Home Department, indicating potential security threats associated with such interactions.
The action follows closely after the apprehension of three suspected terrorists near Adiala Jail. During the arrest, law enforcement recovered maps of the jail, hand grenades, and detonators, heightening concerns about external security risks.
On March 7, a joint operation by the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) and the police thwarted an attempt on Adiala Jail and arrested three terrorists.
Police officials claimed to have seized heavy weapons and ammunition from the suspects, who were subsequently relocated to undisclosed locations.
A spokesperson for the Rawalpindi police asserted that the arrested terrorists hailed from Afghanistan. Additionally, substantial weaponry, explosives, and maps of the jail were confiscated from them.
