NADRA Official Faces Legal Action for Alleged Sexual Assault on CNIC Applicant in Shangla

In a disconcerting turn of events, the Shangla Police have taken swift action against an official associated with the National Database and Registration Authority (NADRA), who stands accused of attempting to sexually assault a female applicant seeking a computerized national identity card (CNIC).

The victim, invoking Pakistan Penal Code Section 354, complained to the Olandar Police Station, asserting that the NADRA official had assaulted her with the intent to outrage her modesty.

The unsettling incident unfolded during the victim’s visit to a NADRA office on a Monday morning to apply for CNIC. The accused, a NADRA official, allegedly directed her into a room for biometric verification. Once inside, he purportedly subjected her to harassment, but the resilient woman managed to escape and promptly reported the distressing encounter to her brother and father-in-law.

The situation escalated, leading to the formation of a concerned mob, which, fortunately, was dispersed by the quick and reassuring actions of the Station House Officer (SHO), Bakht Zeb Khan. Following the victim’s detailed statement, the SHO ensured the registration of an FIR, leading to the immediate arrest of the suspect. Subsequently, the accused was presented before a court to initiate a thorough investigation.

In a bid to address public concerns and maintain transparency, NADRA officials intervened, assuring the agitated crowd that the accused had been suspended. Additionally, an inquiry committee was promptly formed to delve into the incident, highlighting a commitment to accountability and justice.

This unfortunate occurrence underscores the critical importance of law enforcement agencies responding promptly to crimes against women. The collaborative efforts between the police and NADRA authorities in handling the situation not only demonstrate a commitment to justice but also aim to restore public trust in the institutions responsible for ensuring the safety and security of citizens during official processes.
