Islamabad: In a groundbreaking development, the organs of a deceased individual have brought new hope and life to seven people, marking an unprecedented milestone in Pakistan’s medical history. The remarkable feat unfolded following the demise of 31-year-old Uzair bin Yasin from Rawalpindi, who generously pledged to donate his organs after his passing. Uzair’s selfless act successfully transplanted his organs into seven recipients, showcasing the transformative power of organ donation to save lives and improve the quality of life for those in need.
Uzair’s kidneys and eyes were transplanted to four patients, while his liver was transplanted into both an adult patient and a child due to its healthy condition. Dr. Saeed Akhtar, chairman of the Board of Governors at the Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI), emphasized the significance of this achievement during a news conference held in Lahore. He expressed gratitude to the Punjab government for its support, highlighting the crucial role of governmental backing in facilitating such groundbreaking endeavors.

He also commended the collaborative efforts of the medical teams involved, consisting of five consultants and 15 surgeons, whose dedication and expertise ensured the success of the transplant procedures.
Recipients of Uzair’s donated organs, such as Atiqur Rehman from Lahore, who received a portion of the liver, and six-year-old Hamdan from Kohat, who underwent a life-saving liver transplant, experienced renewed hope and healing. Additionally, 23-year-old Hasnain from Lahore received the donated pancreas, offering hope to those in urgent need of organ transplants.
The liver and historic pancreas transplant were carried out at PKLI Lahore, while the kidneys were transplanted at a private hospital and the eyes at Shifa International Hospital. Dr. Faisal, dean of PKLI, highlighted the significance of the transplant procedures, including Pakistan’s first-ever split liver transplant performed at PKLI.
