KARACHI: On Wednesday, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah took decisive action, instructing the provincial Inspector General (IG) Riffat Mukhtar to address the issue of 25,000 vacant positions within the police department.
During a meeting focusing on law and order, attended by Director General (DG) Rangers Sindh Major General Azhar Waqas, IG Mukhtar, commissioner, and other officials, CM Shah emphasized the importance of merit-based recruitment for these positions.
Allocating Rs2 billion for the construction of 708 police stations, CM Shah stressed the need for prudent expenditure and efficient execution of these funds.
Addressing the prevailing law and order challenges, CM Shah prioritized the protection of citizens and their assets, particularly in vulnerable riverine areas. Expressing concern over street crime, he urged for concentrated efforts to enhance law enforcement.
CM Shah emphasized the urgency of tackling dacoity in Sukkur and Larkana’s riverine areas, expressing readiness to collaborate with Punjab and Balochistan governments for effective action.
Regarding the drug issue, CM Shah called for coordinated efforts among police, Rangers, and other agencies to combat drug trafficking in Sindh.
In a bid to enhance security measures, CM Shah directed the increase of police stations in Karachi from 12,000 to 24,000, with a specific focus on controlling crime.
Responding to reports of recent fatalities due to robberies, CM Shah mandated the deployment of additional police personnel at crime hotspots, underscoring a zero-tolerance approach towards street crimes.
After being briefed on police actions against street crimes in Karachi, CM Shah emphasized the need for heightened vigilance in riverine areas, particularly in response to kidnapping incidents.
The DG Rangers briefed CM Shah on ongoing operations against terrorists and drug traffickers, with CM Shah stressing joint efforts by police and Rangers to combat street crimes and dacoity in vulnerable areas, indicating plans for further discussions on this issue.
