Expectation of Heavy Rains and Snowfall in Upcoming Weather Spell

Weather Spell

ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has issued a significant alert regarding an upcoming weather phenomenon, warning of rain, wind, thunderstorms, and snowfall over various regions. The alert covers the period of February 26 and 27, and authorities are urged to take necessary precautions.

The meteorological advisory highlights the potential for heavy rainfall, especially in Balochistan, which may result in flash flooding in local nullahs. Simultaneously, snowfall in hilly areas could disrupt roads and potentially lead to closures during the mentioned period.

The forecast attributes these weather patterns to a westerly wave expected to enter Balochistan on the night of February 25, extending its influence to the upper parts of the country by February 26.

In Balochistan, areas including Chaghi, Noushki, Kharan, Panjgur, Gwadar, and others are likely to experience rain, wind, thunderstorms, and snowfall over the hills on the night of February 25 and February 26.

In Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, similar weather conditions are anticipated in various districts from February 25 night to February 27, with occasional gaps. The forecast also notes the possibility of isolated hailstorms during this period. Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir are expected to witness rain, wind, thunderstorms, and snowfall over the hills in specific regions.

In Punjab/Islamabad, the advisory predicts light to moderate rain, wind, thunderstorms, and snowfall over the hills in certain areas on the evening/night of February 26 and February 27, with isolated hailstorms possible. Southern parts of Sindh may experience cloudy weather with gusty winds on February 25 and February 26.

The PMD cautions about potential disruptions, including road closures due to snowfall in northern Balochistan, hilly areas, and the likelihood of flash flooding in Balochistan. The possibility of landslides in upper Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, Murree, Galiyat, Kashmir, and Gilgit-Baltistan is also noted.

Authorities are advised to stay vigilant, take necessary measures, and farmers and tourists are urged to exercise caution during this weather spell.
