The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) has taken a significant step by canceling the interim bail of former Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader Asad Umar. The grounds for this decision were Umar’s non-appearance at a case hearing related to arson, a case registered at Lahore’s Shadman police station.
Simultaneously, Asad Umar made a consequential announcement of his complete withdrawal from politics. This decision was conveyed through a post on X, wherein Umar elucidated that his disagreement with the policy of confrontation with state institutions had resulted in a serious collision, which he perceived as detrimental to the country’s interests.
In expressing his gratitude, Umar acknowledged those who supported him in his public life journey, specifically mentioning the NA-54 team and the voters who elected him twice. He noted his endeavors to serve the constituency and officially resigned from his basic membership in the PTI.
This development follows Asad Umar’s earlier decision in May to step down from the position of secretary-general of the PTI amid a crackdown on the party following violent protests in May.
At that time, Umar clarified that he was not leaving the party or politics, citing the challenging circumstances faced by the PTI over the preceding 13 months. The recent cancellation of his interim bail and complete withdrawal from politics marks a notable chapter in Asad Umar’s political trajectory.
