KLF Panel Advocates Lasting Peace: Declares ‘Ceasefire Forever’ Urgency for Gaza

Ceasefire Forever

Gaza, labeled a ‘graveyard’ for children by Unicef, endures relentless Israeli airstrikes, leaving devastation in their wake. The siege on the coastal enclave for the past five months has severed essential services, pushing Palestinians to the brink. The world witnesses daily images of dead infants as Israeli warplanes bomb Palestinian territories, yet calls for a ceasefire go unanswered.

The session on ‘Ceasefire Forever’ at the 15th Karachi Literature Festival aimed to shed light on Palestine’s plight, emphasizing the need for a lasting solution. Salma Dabbagh, a Palestinian writer in London, discussed her novel “Out of It,” drawing parallels to Gaza’s current predicament. Moderated by Saba Karim, the panel underscored the urgency of a ceasefire as the only viable path forward.

Dabbagh, asked about processing apartheid in a place she may not live but calls home, expressed the difficulty articulating her emotions amid the ongoing crisis. Acknowledging her privilege, she values safety and basic necessities but remains deeply affected by the atrocities in Palestine.

Addressing misconceptions about the conflict, Dabbagh clarified the distinction between anti-Semitism and anti-Zionism. Celebrating recent developments in the UK, she highlighted the recognition of pro-Palestinian views under anti-Zionism, a crucial step against discrimination.

Expressing skepticism about a two-state solution, Dabbagh noted its potential to perpetuate hostility. She acknowledged obstacles to a one-state solution due to discrimination within Israel’s political and legal system. Dabbagh stressed the importance of continued advocacy and grassroots action, emphasizing the ongoing fight for Palestinian rights and liberation.

The session served as a poignant reminder of the persistent struggle in Gaza and the collective responsibility to advocate for a just and enduring resolution.
