PML-N leader Khawaja Saad Rafique emphasized that the responsibility for forming a federal government lies collectively with all political parties in Parliament, not just his own. He noted that no single party holds an absolute majority in the current National Assembly. This statement follows revelations from a PML-N meeting where leaders advised former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif against pursuing the government.
A scenario similar to the Pakistan Democratic Movement may unfold in the country, with PML-N President Shehbaz Sharif emerging as the joint coalition candidate for the prime ministerial position, supported by old coalition partners. Unlike previous instances, the PPP has declined to join the government but has assured support to the PML-N in government formation and prime ministerial election.
Simultaneously, the PTI, along with religio-political parties, plans to protest alleged election rigging and will sit in opposition in both the Centre and Punjab. The PPP and PML-N coordination committees postponed their third-round meetings to Saturday to finalize the government formation, considering the N-league committee’s meeting with party leadership.
During the party meeting, it was emphasized that the PML-N should not accept “unprincipled demands” and should focus on addressing the economic crisis. Some participants stressed the need to improve the economy, while others suggested concentrating on forming a government in Punjab.
Reports indicate that the PPP aims to swiftly finalize government formation with the PML-N’s support, seeking their backing for the president, National Assembly speaker, and Senate chairman positions. The PPP also advocates creating a comprehensive plan for economic stability.
