ISLAMABAD: Imran Khan, the founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), announced on Tuesday that former federal minister Ali Amin Gandapur will be the party’s nominee for the chief minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
“I have decided that Ali Amin Gandapur will be the chief minister of KP,” stated Khan during an interaction with journalists at Adiala jail, where he is currently detained in multiple cases.
With PTI securing 84 seats in the KP assembly, Khan’s party stands in a favorable position to form the government.
In the National Assembly, PTI-backed candidates emerged as the largest group with over 90 seats, followed by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) with 75 seats.
Khan dismissed the notion of forming a coalition government with PML-N, Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP), and Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan (MQM-P), branding them as “the biggest money launderers.”
He expressed confidence that the recently held general elections on February 8 would bring economic stability to the country.
Khan instructed his party leaders regarding the appointment of KP’s CM, and a notification from the former ruling party regarding this is expected soon.
Khan claimed that he knew PTI had won the elections when PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif postponed his press conference, asserting that both Nawaz Sharif and Maryam Nawaz had lost the elections.
He also mentioned that PTI leader Aliya Hamza received over 100,000 votes while incarcerated.
Regarding forming a government either in the province or at the center, Khan stated that his party would first challenge the election results and approach the Supreme Court against them.
As for the prime minister’s post, no decision has been made yet, and Khan indicated that it will be considered in due time.
