Yasmin Rashid, Ejaz Chaudhry, Mehmoodur Rasheed Face Indictments in May 9 Case

May 9 Case

LAHORE: The Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) indicted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leaders Yasmin Rashid, Mehmoodur Rasheed, and Ejaz Chaudhry in a May 9 vandalism case related to the arrest of a former prime minister.

The PTI leaders face charges for alleged involvement in the violence that ensued on May 9 following the arrest in the Al-Qadir Trust case. The ATC, after the indictment, ordered the trial of the suspects to take place in jail.

Simultaneously, the Punjab Home Department submitted a comprehensive report on the May 9 riots, linking the violence to Imran Khan and the central leadership of PTI.

The 17-page report, endorsed by the Standing Committee on Law and Order, deemed the events as pre-planned and characterized them as a “war against the state.” The report highlighted attacks on military and state institutions, attributing them to PTI’s central and local leadership.

According to the report, key PTI figures, including Hammad Azhar, Dr Yasmin Rashid, Ejaz Chaudhry, Ghulam Mohiuddin, Mian Mahmoodur Rashid, Umar Sarfaraz Cheema, Mansab Awan, Azam Khan Niazi, Bajash Niazi, and Murad Raas, were held accountable for the orchestrated violence.

The findings of the report underscore the political and legal ramifications for PTI leaders involved in the May 9 case, raising questions about the party’s stance and potential implications for its political standing.

The indictment and the comprehensive report further intensify the scrutiny on PTI’s role in the alleged premeditated acts of violence and their consequences. Overall, Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) indicts PTI leaders Yasmin Rashid, Main Mehmoodur Rasheed, and Ejaz Chaudhry in May 9 vandalism case.
