On Tuesday, the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) took disciplinary action against Khurram Sher Zaman, a candidate in the upcoming 2024 general election from constituency NA-241, by issuing a show cause notice.
The notice was prompted by an incident where Khurram Sher Zaman organized a rally in constituency NA-241 near Teen Talwar, Clifton, on January 28, but conspicuously failed to make an appearance. The PTI accused him of exploiting the party’s founder’s name to conduct the rally in Clifton, leading to the lodging of an FIR against 4500 PTI workers.
In response to this alleged misconduct, the show cause notice declared the initiation of an inquiry against Khurram Sher Zaman for purportedly sabotaging the election campaign in Karachi.
The situation escalated when numerous PTI workers were apprehended following clashes with the police on Sunday at the Teen Talwar monument. Law enforcement reported that the party had not sought permission to hold the rally, a violation of the Election Commission of Pakistan’s code of conduct.
Seven officers, including the Boat Basin SHO, sustained injuries during the clashes. Subsequently, the police registered a case against PTI workers and leaders under terror charges for “resorting to vandalism” during an “unlawful assembly” at Teen Talwar.

In a recent development, the Sindh High Court (SHC) granted pre-arrest bail to six PTI leaders. The court instructed them to submit a bail bond of Rs30,000 each. This legal intervention temporarily shields these PTI leaders from arrest and provides them with an opportunity to present their case within the legal framework. The unfolding events underscore the complexity and intensity of the political landscape in Karachi as the general elections draw near.
