ISLAMABAD: The National Security Council is holding a crucial meeting today in Islamabad in the wake of counter airstrikes by Pakistan Army in retaliation to Iranian airstrikes.
Prime Minister Kakar will chair the meeting while chiefs of armed forces and other senior officials will attend it.
Caretaker Information Minister Murtaza Solangi verified that Mr. Kakar had called for a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on National Security. Mr. Solangi refrained from disclosing the meeting’s agenda, he suggested that it would primarily address the situation between Pakistan and Iran.
In response to the retaliatory strike into Iran, Balochistan has heightened its security measures, particularly in the border districts.
Meanwhile, a high-level meeting, chaired by Chief Minister Mir Ali Mardan Domki, took place on Thursday to comprehensively evaluate the current law and order situation, specifically in the border regions.
During the session, the additional chief secretary for home and tribal affairs, Zahid Saleem, presented a detailed report on the law and order conditions in districts bordering Iran and Afghanistan.
Chief Secretary Shakeel Qadir Khan, Additional IG Police Jawad Hussain, and other relevant officials were also in attendance.
Notably, on Thursday, Pakistan responded to the violation of its sovereignty by Iran with targeted military strikes on terrorist hideouts within the Iranian border. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs released a statement on Thursday, stating that the operation, codenamed “Marg Bar Sarmachar,” resulted in the elimination of several terrorists in the Sistan-o-Baluchistan province.
The retaliatory action followed Iran’s claim of launching “missile and drone” attacks on the Jaish al-Adl group’s headquarters in Balochistan’s “Green Mountain” area, causing casualties, including the death of two children and injuries to three girls.
Pakistan condemned Iran’s breach of sovereignty as an unprovoked violation of international law and the United Nations Charter.
The Foreign Office spokesperson, Mumtaz Zahra Baloch, emphasized Pakistan’s consistent communication of concerns regarding safe havens for Pakistani-origin terrorists within Iran. Despite sharing multiple dossiers with concrete evidence, Pakistan asserted that the lack of action allowed these terrorists, known as “Sarmachars,” to operate with impunity.
The military operation was carried out based on credible intelligence pointing to impending large-scale terrorist activities by the Sarmachars.
Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding national security and defending against all threats, highlighting the professionalism of its Armed Forces in executing the operation.
