Artificial Intelligence
Former Prime Minister Imran Khan asserted during an informal conversation with reporters in Adiala jail that a recently published article in the Economist under his name was created with the assistance of artificial intelligence.
Khan claimed that he provided dictated points which were then transformed into an article using AI tools, emphasizing that he took ownership of the content. He also mentioned that one of his speeches would be released on social media soon.
The article in question, titled ‘Imran Khan warns that Pakistan’s election could be a farce,’ was written by invitation and included the former PM’s summary of his perceived ousting from power, expressing concerns about potential manipulation of the upcoming elections for favorable outcomes by the establishment.
The caretaker government, however, expressed strong reservations about the article. Information Minister Murtaza Solangi alleged that the article was ‘ghost-written’ and not authored by Khan himself. Despite claims that Khan’s circumstances in jail did not preclude him from writing, Solangi insisted that the former PTI chairman did not compose the article.
Sources within the PTI contended that the article was a ‘consolidation’ of statements previously made by Imran Khan at different times.
Solangi responded to the AI-generated claims in a post on social media, stating, “…the current Chairman PTI doesn’t endorse its anti-establishment and anti-American contents but the PTI overseas, some semi-literate anchors and @TheEconomist are jubilant over AI-generated shenanigans.”
Imran Khan reiterated his party’s reservations during the Monday conversation, claiming that the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf was not being afforded a level playing field.
