Sexual Abuse
Former federal minister and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) leader Senator Talha Mahmood made startling revelations on Monday, disclosing that Pakistani neuroscientist Aafia Siddiqui confided in him about being sexually abused multiple times in a US jail. During a meeting on December 4, Senator Talha Mahmood was present with Aafia Siddiqui and Fowzia Siddiqui, and the conversation extended for 44 minutes.
Senator Talha Mahmood shared that Aafia Siddiqui raised concerns about the behavior of jail administration and reported incidents of sexual abuse during the recent meeting. She repeatedly named a US official named J. Rebin, and upon investigation, it was discovered that 30 complaints had already been filed against him, of which 9 were substantiated.
Senator Talha Mahmood emphasized that top-notch lawyers have now been hired to advocate for Aafia Siddiqui in the US. He criticized the current state of affairs in Pakistan, attributing the country’s crises and political setbacks to incompetence and corruption.
Regarding the political landscape, Mahmood expressed dissatisfaction with the performance of the 13-party coalition government and dismissed the notion that he is the JUI-F’s ‘ATM machine,’ asserting that political parties need funds.
The revelation of sexual abuse adds a disturbing dimension to Aafia Siddiqui’s already controversial and high-profile case, raising concerns about human rights violations and the treatment of prisoners in US custody. The situation may lead to increased international scrutiny and calls for a thorough investigation into the allegations. The involvement of high-profile lawyers in Siddiqui’s case suggests a concerted effort to address the legal aspects of her grievances and seek justice on her behalf.
