Important Message
ISLAMABAD: Sardar Ahmad Jan Shakib, the interim ambassador of Afghanistan to Pakistan, held a meeting with Maulana Fazlur Rehman, the chief of the Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F), on Saturday. The discussions centered around the crucial topic of achieving peace in the region, which has been marred by terrorism. During the meeting, Ambassador Shakib delivered a ‘special message’ from the interim Afghan government to Maulana Fazl.
The diplomatic engagement delved into the strained relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan, exacerbated by an increase in terror attacks in Pakistan, primarily attributed to the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP). The Pakistani government has consistently demanded swift action against militants operating from Afghanistan and their extradition.
Insiders revealed that the letter conveyed by the Afghan envoy emphasized their government’s efforts to curb terrorist networks operating within their borders. The discussions likely revolved around Kabul’s endeavors to contain and counteract terror outfits using Afghanistan as a launching pad.
Sources suggested that Maulana Fazl urged the Taliban government to exercise control over the movement of terrorists, specifically referencing a recent attack in the Dera Ismail Khan area—the hometown and election constituency of the JUI-F chief.
The statement issued by the JUI-F highlighted the presence of former lawmaker Maulana Salahuddin Ayubi during the meeting. Both sides expressed the need for improved relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan, emphasizing that enhanced bilateral ties would contribute to regional peace.
The discussions underscore the significance of diplomatic efforts in addressing security concerns, fostering cooperation, and working towards stability in the region.
