TANK: Tragically, two policemen lost their lives, and three others sustained injuries in an armed attack on the police headquarters in the Police Lines area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Tank district on Friday.
The deceased has been identified as Sub-Inspector Gohar Zaman. Initial reports suggested the presence of more attackers in the area, prompting heightened security measures.
A significant deployment of police and other security agencies has encircled the area as an exchange of gunfire persists between law enforcement and the assailants.
In response to the attack, security forces have closed the Tank-Dera highway. According to sources, the attackers threw four hand grenades upon entering the area, and one of the assailants detonated a suicide bomb. The situation remains tense as security forces work to neutralize the threat and secure the affected area.
This incident follows a similar act of terrorism in November, where a police officer was martyred during an attack on a Punjab Highway Patrolling Post in Mianwali. Over 10 terrorists targeted the Eisa Khel Kundal patrolling post in the early hours, engaging in a gunfight with PHP officials.
The vigilant officials thwarted the suspects’ attempt to breach the building, resulting in the death of two terrorists and the martyrdom of PHP head constable Haroon Khan. IG Punjab Police Usman Anwar noted that the police had been on high alert following an intelligence report about the impending attack.
Five Terrorists Killed In Intelligence-Based Operation In KPโs Tank District: ISPR
Earlier, during an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Mullazai area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwaโs Tank district, the armyโs media affairs wing announced on Friday that five terrorists were killed. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that the operation took place following intelligence indicating the presence of terrorists.

After a fierce exchange of fire, the ISPR stated that five terrorists were neutralized. The individuals eliminated were reportedly actively involved in various terrorist activities, including actions against law enforcement agencies, extortion, and targeted killings of innocent civilians.
The ISPR further mentioned the recovery of a cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosives during the operation. A sanitization operation is underway to eliminate any remaining terrorists in the area, emphasizing the commitment of Pakistanโs security forces to eradicate the menace of terrorism from the country.
Recent incidents highlight an increase in terrorist activities in Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. The uptick follows the termination of the ceasefire between the government and the banned militant group Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan in November of the previous year.
According to data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, there was a 34 percent increase in anti-state violence in the country last month, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa being the most affected province. The province experienced 51 attacks resulting in 54 fatalities and 81 injuries.
