Jemima Khan, the British filmmaker and former spouse of ex-Prime Minister Imran Khan, refuted accusations of financing vloggers to support her former husband’s party, Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI). These claims surfaced during an interview with Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Co-chairman Asif Ali Zardari on a private news channel.
In response to a post on X (previously known as Twitter), Jemima dismissed the allegations, stating, “This is clearly untrue.” She reiterated her sole desire for “peace & prosperity in Pakistan.”
During his interview, Zardari expressed concern over PTI’s alleged return to parliament with a two-thirds majority, attributing these claims to vloggers abroad. He specifically mentioned Jemima’s involvement in financing these bloggers, insinuating an ulterior motive behind this support.
Zardari further criticized Imran Khan’s stance on democracy, claiming that Khan was inclined toward a presidential democracy rather than supporting parliamentary democracy, referring to it as a “cult democracy.”
The former president also referenced Jemima’s mother, Lady Annabel Goldsmith, discussing a documentary detailing their family’s historical involvement in profiting from conflicts, citing their engagement in recruiting British mercenaries during the Egyptian war.
Additionally, Zardari highlighted the influence of overseas Pakistanis, suggesting they are misled due to their limited understanding of the country’s internal affairs. He noted their reliance on polls portraying PTI as a popular party, indicating potential misinformation.
