RAWALPINDI: During an intelligence-based operation (IBO) in the Mullazai area of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s Tank district, the army’s media affairs wing announced on Friday that five terrorists were killed. The Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) reported that the operation took place following intelligence indicating the presence of terrorists.
After a fierce exchange of fire, the ISPR stated that five terrorists were neutralized. The individuals eliminated were reportedly actively involved in various terrorist activities, including actions against law enforcement agencies, extortion, and targeted killings of innocent civilians.
The ISPR further mentioned the recovery of a cache of weapons, ammunition, and explosives during the operation. A sanitization operation is underway to eliminate any remaining terrorists in the area, emphasizing the commitment of Pakistan’s security forces to eradicate the menace of terrorism from the country.
Recent incidehighlightgsht an increase in terrorist activities in Pakistan, particularly in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan. The uptick follows the termination of the ceasefire between the government and the banned militant group Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan in November of the previous year.
According to data from the Pakistan Institute for Conflict and Security Studies, there was a 34 percent increase in anti-state violence in the country last month, with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa being the most affected province. The province experienced 51 attacks resulting in 54 fatalities and 81 injuries.
CTD Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Arrests Female Involved in Extortion
Meanwhile, the Counter Terrorism Department of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa apprehended a female from Kohat, allegedly implicated in extortion cases.
The CTD disclosed that the suspect, identified as Maryam Bibi, played a role in her father’s extortion network. They claimed that the suspect was also traced to making calls from a mobile number associated with an Afghan cellular network.
According to the CTD, the suspect engaged in extortion calls directed at two businessmen in Peshawar and was implicated in leaving an extortion letter in one instance.
The CTD further stated that ongoing raids were underway in Mohmand and Peshawar in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to apprehend the suspect’s father and dismantle the extortion network.
Earlier this month, the CTD reported that 51 women were under suspicion for their alleged involvement in various crimes, including terrorism, in the province over the past nine years. The list outlined charges against these women, ranging from terrorism and kidnapping to target killing, extortion, and terror financing since 2014.
