Following an attack on a bus in Chilas city of Gilgit Baltistan, the Diamer Police have taken swift action by filing a First Information Report (FIR) and apprehending 17 suspects. The assault, carried out by unidentified armed individuals, resulted in the tragic death of nine people and left 26 others injured.
In response to the incident, SP Diamer, Sardar Shehryar, expressed a firm commitment to combat terrorism, stating that he would go to any lengths to address the threat. The detained suspects are currently undergoing interrogation.
The Diamer commissioner’s Public Relations Officer (PRO), in communication with the media, reported that an FIR against the unknown gunmen had been registered by Diamer Station House Officer Azmat Shah.
High security along the Karakoram Highway
In light of the attack, Chief Minister Gulbar Khan of Gilgit-Baltistan has announced heightened security measures along the Karakoram Highway. Recognizing the necessity for increased security, Khan instructed the police force to prioritize the safety of travelers and commuters on the highway.
SP Diamer informed that the Karakoram Highway is operational, with convoy-style foolproof security provided to passenger vehicles during daylight hours. The enhanced security measures involve increased patrolling by law enforcement agencies and the establishment of security checkposts along the highway.
A search operation has been initiated across Diamer, and the Karakoram Highway is expected to remain open today, with a focus on ensuring the safety of all travelers.
Chilas Bus Attack: Eyewitnesses Describe Relentless Gunfire, Fatal Collision
Meanwhile, new details about the tragic assault on a bus in Chilas, resulting in at least nine fatalities and 26 injuries on Saturday, have emerged from the accounts of eyewitnesses and survivors.
The incident unfolded as the bus, under sudden and intense gunfire, lost control and collided with an oncoming truck, subsequently engulfing the truck in flames.
Muhammad Hussain, an eyewitness, described the gunfire as so relentless that it felt like rocks were pelting down on the bus.
