Escalating Terrorism
On Monday, Ishaq Dar, a prominent PML-N leader and Leader of the House in the Senate, vociferously demanded that the caretaker government construct a “clear-cut program” to effectively grapple with the recent surge in terrorism across the country.
In an assertive tone, he urged key figures, including the interior minister and the government, to actively formulate and promptly present this comprehensive program in the Senate. Dar underscored the necessity of providing pertinent facts and figures spanning the past 15 or 20 years, aiming to holistically analyze the root causes of the escalating terrorism.
Within the Senate session, Dar fervently endorsed viewpoints from both sides, emphasizing the critical need for collective efforts to decisively address the pressing issue of terrorism.
He fervently urged government officials to allocate substantial time and resources to this matter, proposing the convening of an in-camera session to meticulously brief members on the nuanced historical context of terrorism in the country.
Dar critically scrutinized the preceding policy of attempting reconciliation with the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and engaging with the Afghan Taliban without due consultation with political parties.
In a forceful call for accountability, Dar suggested that individuals involved in engaging with the Taliban and releasing militants should be thoroughly questioned or compelled to publicly issue apologies on national television for their alleged role in the recent surge in militancy.
He passionately underscored the profound impact of such actions on the common citizens and vehemently criticized decisions made without the active involvement of Parliament or national consensus.
