No Elections
President Dr. Arif Alvi expressed skepticism regarding the general elections happening in January next year, while emphasizing the importance of transparent polls when they occur.
Concerns about a potential delay have been raised by political analysts, who have noted that no political party appears to be in “election mode.” Additionally, the harsh winter weather has been mentioned as a possible hindrance to the polling process.
In an interview with Hamid Mir of Geo News, President Alvi stated, “I don’t believe the elections will take place in the last week of January. I think the supreme judiciary has taken notice of it and will issue an appropriate order.”

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) had previously announced that the polls would be held in the last week of January 2024, but without specifying an exact date, raising concerns of further delays.
Originally scheduled to take place within 90 days after the dissolution of the National Assembly in August, the general elections were postponed due to the approval of a new census, necessitating revised constituency boundaries.
During the interview, President Alvi stressed the need for free and fair elections, stating that it is crucial for Pakistan’s development, with a call for a level-playing field echoed by many. In preparation for the upcoming elections, he emphasized the importance of national unity, saying, “The spirit of forgiveness builds nations.”
