JCP approves the elevation of Justice Irfan Saadat to SC

ISLAMABAD: On Friday, the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) unanimously approved the elevation of Sindh High Court (SHC) acting Chief Justice Irfan Saadat Khan to the Supreme Court (SC).

Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP) Qazi Faez Isa proposed Khan’s name during the Judicial Commission of Pakistan (JCP) meeting convened today to fill one of the two vacant seats in the top court.

During the meeting, CJP Isa declared, “Justice Irfan Saadat Khan fulfills the stipulated requirements, possesses extensive knowledge, vast experience, remarkable versatility, upholds an upright character, and stands as the most senior Judge among the Chief Justices and Judges of all the high courts.”

A statement issued by the top court affirmed that all the members present in the meeting unanimously approved the nominations, and these endorsements were also provided in writing by the law minister, Ahmed Irfan Aslam, who was abroad at the time.

The Judicial Commission’s nomination of Justice Khan as a Supreme Court judge will now be forwarded to the parliamentary committee for formal approval.

Born on February 7, 1963, Khan embarked on his legal career by enrolling as an advocate of the lower court on September 10, 1989. He commenced his practice as an advocate of the high court in October 1991 and was eventually enrolled as an advocate of the top court on October 6, 2008.

Notably, Justice Khan assumed the role of a high court judge on September 25, 2009.

Hearing For NAB Reference Involving Hafeez Sheikh Adjourned By The Court

Meanwhile, the court has adjourned the hearing of the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) reference against the former finance minister until November 14.

This reference was scheduled for a hearing in the accountability court following a Supreme Court verdict against amendments in the NAB law.
