RAWALPINDI: The Lahore High Court (LHC) has granted Rawalpindi police one week to recover Awami Muslim League chief and former interior minister Sheikh Rasheed, who was arrested in September. This decision came following a plea filed by Sheikh Rasheed through his lawyers, Sardar Razzak and Sardar Shehbaz, in the LHC Rawalpindi Bench.
The court named the Inspector General of Punjab, the Regional Police Officer (RPO), the Chief Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) of Rawalpindi, and the Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Operations as respondents.
During the hearing, RPO Rawalpindi Syed Khurram Ali and CPO Rawalpindi Khalid Hamdani appeared before the court. When questioned by the court, the police officials requested additional time for Sheikh Rasheed’s recovery.
The court asked, “How much more time do you need for recovery, and what have you done so far?” The RPO Rawalpindi explained that the officers responsible for the arrest were not present in the area on the day in question.
The court granted one more week for Sheikh Rasheed’s recovery, considering it the last chance, and warned that the court would issue an order in case of any delay.
After the hearing, the court adjourned until October 27. They arrested Sheikh Rasheed, the former interior minister and head of the Awami Muslim League (AML), from his Rawalpindi residence in September.
McDonald’s Pakistan Donates PKR 10 Million to Gaza Victims Amid Controversy
In another development, McDonald’s Pakistan has announced a substantial donation of PKR 10 million to support Gaza victims through the renowned Edhi Foundation. This philanthropic initiative coincides with the ongoing global controversy surrounding McDonald’s, stemming from its indirect provision of free meals to the Israeli occupation army.

In an official statement on its platform, McDonald’s Pakistan clarified its position, emphasizing that it operates as a locally managed entity with no affiliations to McDonald’s Israel. Furthermore, the company underscored its commitment to addressing the urgent humanitarian crisis in Gaza and its dedication to providing assistance to those affected by the long-standing conflict in the region.
The decision to contribute PKR 10 million is a gesture of solidarity with the victims of the Gaza conflict, demonstrating the local branch’s commitment to supporting those enduring the devastating consequences of the crisis.
Nevertheless, this gesture also highlights the broader controversy surrounding McDonald’s due to its involvement in offering complimentary meals to the Israeli occupation army. This matter has led to worldwide protests and boycott movements. Moreover, McDonald’s branches in various countries have taken swift action to distance themselves from the actions of the Israeli branch.
