LAHORE: The Lahore High Court has granted bail to Khadija Shah in the May 9 riots case after nearly five months in custody. A two-member bench led by Justice Aalia Neelum announced the decision.
Approximately two weeks after the arrest of Imran Khan in the Toshakhana case in Islamabad, authorities arrested Khadija Shah. Khadija Shah is the daughter of former Finance Minister Salman Shah and the granddaughter of former Army Chief General Asim Nawaz Janjua.
These protests turned particularly violent in Lahore, where the attackers vandalized and set on fire the Corps Commander House, also known as Jinnah House. Authorities accused Khadija Shah of participating in the protests in Lahore and inciting more people to join them.
Moreover, a few days after her arrest, a video emerged on social media in which Shah apologized for her involvement in the protest and pledged support to the armed forces.
