Saudi Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman reached out to Palestine’s President Mahmoud Abbas via telephone to discuss the escalating situation in Gaza. During the call, the Saudi crown prince assured President Abbas of Saudi Arabia’s unwavering support for the Palestinian struggle to attain their legitimate rights and achieve lasting peace in the region.
Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman emphasized that Saudi Arabia is actively engaging with both international and regional stakeholders to exert all possible efforts aimed at halting the ongoing escalation and preventing its spread throughout the region. He stressed the crucial importance of adhering to international humanitarian law and avoiding the targeting of civilians.
Following his conversation with President Abbas, Crown Prince Mohammad bin Salman also communicated with Egypt’s president and Jordan’s King Abdullah to collaboratively devise a strategy to de-escalate the tense situation in the region.
In contrast, an emergency meeting of the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) did not result in any decisive action to address the intensifying conflict in the Middle East. A sudden assault by Palestinian fighters on Israeli border towns triggered this crisis, prompting Israel to respond with deadly airstrikes on Gaza. This has resulted in a rising death toll, with casualties reaching 1,100.
According to diplomats, the United States requested that all 15 Council members issue a statement strongly condemning the “heinous terrorist attacks committed by Hamas.” However, not all members of the Council were in agreement with this call, and unanimity is required for the UNSC to issue a formal statement.
