PSO Suspends Fuel Supply to PIA Due to Unpaid Dues

Fuel Supply

Pakistan State Oil (PSO) has taken the decisive step of suspending fuel supply to Pakistan International Airlines (PIA) due to outstanding dues. This suspension of fuel supply occurred specifically at Lahore airport, leading to disruptions for PIA passengers.

Notably, flights such as Lahore to Madina PK-747 and Lahore to Karachi PK 305 were significantly delayed due to the unavailability of fuel.

PIA’s spokesperson acknowledged the situation and stated that the airline is actively negotiating with PSO to resolve the issue, assuring affected passengers that their flights will depart once they resolve the matter.

This development comes amid growing concerns about the technical state of PIA’s fleet. Several Boeing 777 aircraft operated by Pakistan’s national flag carrier have reportedly experienced technical faults during international flights. These issues have raised questions about maintenance and repair work within PIA’s engineering department.

In parallel, efforts to restructure and privatize PIA are progressing. The airline’s administration has invited applications from legal and corporate firms to participate in the restructuring plan.

As part of this plan, assets including property, debts, aircraft, and employees will transferred to a new entity. PIA is being positioned as a debt-free organization to attract potential investors for privatization.

The fuel supply suspension by PSO underscores the financial challenges and operational difficulties that PIA continues to face, emphasizing the urgency of reforms and financial stability in the national airline.
