Controversial Tweets Case
ISLAMABAD: On Wednesday, a special court issued an arrest warrant for Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf leader and former federal minister Azam Swati in connection with a controversial tweets case.
Special Judge Central Shahrukh Arjumand instructed the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to apprehend Azam Swati and present him before the court.
The arrest warrant for Swati was issued by the judge due to his consistent failure to appear in court for the case.
After Special Judge Central Azam Khan dismissed his plea, ruling that he had “committed the same offense twice,” the senator sought post-arrest bail from the Islamabad High Court (IHC).
The IHC granted bail to the senator on January 2 in exchange for a bond of Rs 200,000.
Overall, Azam Swati faces an arrest warrant in a controversial tweet case due to his repeated absence from court hearings. His bail plea was previously denied by Special Judge Central Azam Khan, leading to the issuance of the warrant, while the Islamabad High Court had granted him bail earlier.
Review Petition Withdrawn By Pemra In Faizabad Sit-In Verdict Case
Moreover, on Wednesday, the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) submitted a petition to the Supreme Court, stating its intent to withdraw the review petition challenging the ruling in the Faizabad sit-in case.
PEMRA has filed a petition with the Supreme Court, stating its intention to no longer pursue the lawsuit.
The change in PEMRA’s stance comes a day after the Intelligence Bureau (IB) informed the Supreme Court of its decision to withdraw a plea requesting a reconsideration of the court’s 2019 decision regarding the Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) sit-in in Faizabad, Islamabad.
