ISLAMABAD: The Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Qazi Faez Isa, has scheduled a hearing for the Faizabad sit-in review case.
On September 28, a three-member bench led by Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa, along with Justice Aminuddin Khan and Justice Athar Minallah, will preside over the Faizabad sit-in review case. The review petition was filed by the then Interior Ministry against the Chief Justice’s verdict on April 15, 2019, and the Pakistan Bar Council also requested the case to be scheduled for a hearing.

It’s worth noting that Chief Justice Faiz Isa faced a presidential reference following his verdict in the Faizabad sit-in case. On February 6, 2019, the Supreme Court issued a written verdict in a suo-moto case related to the Tehreek-e-Labbaik’s (TLP) 2017 Faizabad sit-in, instructing action against extremist elements.
Faizabad sit-in
In November 2017, the Tehreek-i-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) conducted a weeks-long protest at Islamabad’s Faizabad Interchange in response to a minor modification in the oath taken by lawmakers. Following the protests, the court took suo motu notice of the situation.
The National Assembly had previously passed an amendment to the oath regarding the Finality of Prophet-hood (Khatm-e-Nabuwwat) for electoral candidates, which had triggered protests from various religious groups across the country. Subsequently, the government withdrew the controversial amendment that had caused significant controversy.
