ISLAMABAD: On Friday, former bureaucrat Fawad Hasan Fawad was sworn in as the caretaker federal minister.

The stately ceremony occurred at Aiwan-e-Sadr in Islamabad, where President Dr. Arif Alvi presided over the oath-taking.
Mr. Fawad had held influential positions in the highest levels of government. He served as the principal secretary to two prime ministers, Nawaz Sharif and Shahid Khaqan Abbasi. His administrative expertise extended beyond the federal level, as he also served as the principal secretary to former Punjab chief minister Shehbaz Sharif.
It’s worth noting that the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) had accused him of possessing illegal assets valued at billions of rupees.
In July 2018, the NAB detained him on corruption charges related to the Ashiana-e-Iqbal project and three other significant initiatives.
In 2020, an accountability court in Lahore delivered a verdict that provided strong vindication. The NAB’s case collapsed due to a lack of substantial evidence, resulting in the acquittal of Fawad, his wife, his brother, and Dr. Anjum Hassan.
