ISLAMABAD: A committee formed by the Higher Education Commission (HEC) has concluded that there is no evidence of organized activity related to sexual harassment or obscene videos at Bahawalpur’s Islamia University. The university gained attention when law enforcement agencies arrested its chief security officer and registrar in July. After conducting its investigation, the committee stated that posts on social media exaggerated the situation.
Furthermore, the committee’s report dismissed earlier claims of an organized sale of illegal drugs, such as ice, on the university campus. However, it did identify the involvement of two to three officers in individual illegal activities and recommended taking strict action against them.

The inquiry committee interacted with various university departments and also interviewed the vice-chancellor during its investigation. Furthermore, the committee noted irregularities in academic and administrative matters and recommended appropriate action in these areas as well.

The other members of the committee included Lt. Gen (R) Moazzam Ejaz from the National University Islamabad, Pro-Vice Chancellor Najma Najam from the International University Lahore, Rector Tahira Aziz Mughal from the Imperial College of Business Studies Lahore, and P&D Finance Advisor Mazhar Saeed.
