Sumbal served as chief secretary of Punjab
ISLAMABAD: Muhammad Abdullah Khan Sumbal, the Federal Interior Secretary, passed away due to a cardiac arrest on Wednesday.
Abdullah Khan Sumbal, a seasoned bureaucrat, held various significant positions in Punjab and other regions, including serving as Punjab chief secretary and commissioner of Lahore division.
In 2022, the establishment division appointed Abdullah Khan Sumbal as the chief secretary.
During his tenure, he served as the acting chief secretary, filling a long-standing vacancy caused by chief secretary Kamran Ali Afzal’s extended 105-day leave. It’s worth noting that Afzal had declined to work with the government of Punjab Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi in 2022.
A Big loss for Civil Service of Pakistan
Federal Interior Minister Sarfraz Ahmed Bugti extended his condolences and remarked that Sumbal, a brilliant officer, represented a significant loss for both his family and Pakistan’s civil service.

Former Prime Minister and President of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Shehbaz Sharif, conveyed his condolences on the bureaucrat’s unfortunate passing. He shared, “I can’t believe this incredibly sad news about Abdullah Khan Sumbal’s passing. I’ve known him for nearly two decades. He worked closely with me as my Secretary and held other significant field positions. I always regarded him as a true gentleman with unquestionable professional and personal integrity.”
The Punjab PMS Officers Association also issued a statement expressing condolences on the demise of the former chief secretary of Pakistan.
