RAWALPINDI / ISLAMABAD: The Rawalpindi Additional District and Sessions Court has handed down the death penalty to four individuals in a blasphemy case initiated by the Federal Investigation Agency’s (FIA) Cyber Crime Wing (CCW). Meanwhile, the court has sentenced a fifth accused to seven years in prison.
Additional District and Sessions Judge (ADSJ) Ahsan Mahmood Malik pronounced the verdict in two separate cases.
The judge declared blasphemy against the Holy Prophet (PBUH) and desecration of the Holy Quran as heinous and unforgivable crimes. He emphasized that those committing such acts should receive no concession or leniency.
The judge convicted Wazir Gul, Muhammad Amin, Faizan Razak, and Muhammad Rizwan, sentencing them to death with a fine of Rs100,000 under Section 295-C of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC) and life imprisonment and a fine of Rs100,000 under Section 295-B of the PPC.
Furthermore, the judge imposed a seven-year jail term and a fine of Rs20,000 on the fifth accused, Usman Liaquat.
The CCW refistered the case on September 12, 2022, based on a complaint filed by civilian Umair. The CCW presented blasphemous videos and social media posts retrieved from the criminals’ seized phones to the court.
