Pervaiz Elahi transferred to Islamabad after falling ill at Attock Jail

ISLAMABAD: Former Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi suddenly fell ill while at Attock Jail and was subsequently transferred to Islamabad’s Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (PIMS) hospital. A heavy contingent of police set off with Elahi towards Islamabad.

Earlier, Islamabad police shifted PTI president Chaudhary Parvez Elahi to Attock Jail on Friday evening. Islamabad Police re-arrested the PTI leader under the MPO and locked him in Adiala Jail for 30 days.

Earlier, Parvez Elahi was released from Lahore prison after Lahore High Court ordered his release. The court ordered the police not to arrest Elahi in any case.

However, Islamabad police took Parvez Elahi in their custody, transported him to Islamabad, and then sent him behind bars in Attock Jail.

The Lahore High Court (LHC) instructed an inquiry into Parvez Elahi’s arrest for violating court orders. The Islamabad Police arrested PTI President Parvez Elahi from Canal Road in Lahore while he was heading home following court orders. The police arrested him under the 3MPO (Maintenance of Public Order) Ordinance.

Earlier, the LHC ordered the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) to release Elahi on Friday and prevented his arrest in any other case.

The LHC Judge Amjad Rafiq announced the decision in a petition challenging NAB’s arrest of Elahi. NAB arrested him in a case involving alleged bribes/kickbacks in contracts related to road schemes in the Gujrat Highways Division.

After the hearing, Parvez Elahi criticized the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N). He blamed the N-League for economic troubles during their rule and accused them of fleeing to London.

During the proceedings, the court ordered NAB to produce Chaudhry Parvez Elahi in the court within an hour. Following the order, the NAB Lahore office presented him before the court with tight security measures.

Justice Amjad Rafiq questioned the NAB prosecutor about the status of the intra-court appeal, to which the prosecutor claimed ignorance. In response, Justice Amjad Rafiq ordered a thorough inquiry and the release of Parvez Elahi.

The NAB lawyer expressed readiness to present Parvez Elahi but cited threats to his life and a lack of cooperation from the Punjab Government regarding security matters
