Peacekeeping Troops
As reports of a deteriorating law and order situation in Gilgit-Baltistan circulated on social media, the region’s Home Department clarified that the situation remains peaceful.
The department clarified that despite reports circulating on social media regarding a deteriorating law and order situation in Gilgit-Baltistan, the region remains completely peaceful. Mobile internet services have suspended for over a week. However, the department categorically denied the news and speculations about the deployment of the Pakistan Army, dismissing them as “baseless.”
The provincial authorities have imposed section 144 province-wide to maintain law and order, protect lives and property, and prevent any untoward incidents.
The Home Department stated that all communication roads, trade and business centers, and educational institutions in Gilgit-Baltistan are functioning normally.
Additionally, they have enlisted the services of the Pakistan Army and Civil Armed Forces to maintain peace during Chehlum Imam Hussain (RA). Special security measures have implemented for the procession routes and Imam bargahs, as in previous years.
Gilgit-Baltistan Denies Unrest Reports
Caretaker Information Minister Murtaza Solangi endorsed the statement from the Gilgit-Baltistan (GB) home department and vehemently rejected the “misleading social media narratives and fake news,” aiming to set the record straight.
On X (formerly Twitter), the interim minister emphasized the prevailing peace and stability in Gilgit-Baltistan, noting that schools, colleges, markets, and roads remained open, reflecting a sense of normalcy.
Dismissing all reports of tensions in the region, Minister Solangi stated, “The reports of unrest are baseless; no shots were fired, no damage to public and private property did occur.” He asserted that Gilgit-Baltistan continued to be a haven of peace and harmony.
Earlier, reports had surfaced regarding the GB government’s decision to call in the army to maintain law and order. Lastly, Chief Minister Khan warned of strict action against those inciting hatred on social media and other platforms.
