ISLAMABAD: In a demonstration of ongoing collaboration, Pakistan and China actively discussed various aspects of arms control and non-proliferation during their 8th round of bilateral consultations held in Beijing on Wednesday. The two-day event also encompassed discussions on regional and global security matters.
Mohammad Kamran Akhtar, Pakistan’s Additional Secretary for Arms Control & Disarmament/Policy Planning, and Sun Xiaobo, Director General from China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs, led their respective delegations, as stated in a press release by the Foreign Office spokesperson.
Pakistan’s delegation also paid visits to prominent Beijing think-tanks, including China’s Arms Control and Disarmament Association (CACDA) and the Chinese Institute of Contemporary International Relations (CICR).
During these visits, both sides reached an agreement to further strengthen strategic collaboration between the think-tanks and research institutes of both countries.
It was also decided that the 9th round of consultations would take place next year on a date mutually agreed upon.
Before the bilateral talks, Additional Secretary Mohammad Kamran Akhtar engaged in discussions with Sun Weidong, Vice Foreign Minister of the Republic of China. Their meeting involved a comprehensive exchange of perspectives on various aspects, including the robust China-Pakistan relations. They delved into an in-depth analysis of the international and regional security landscape, exploring areas of mutual interest.
This dialogue reflects the commitment of both nations to fostering a strong partnership and addressing shared concerns.
