Imran Khan questioned by special JIT in Attock jail regarding the May 9 riots

ISLAMABAD: Imran Khan, the Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), underwent intense questioning by a special JIT investigating May 9 riots across the country in Attock Jail. An anti-terrorism court (ATC) granted permission to conduct this investigation.

The court has allowed Khan to be interrogated by the police in six more cases. The JIT, composed of a five-member team of high-ranking officials, visited Attock Jail to interrogate Imran Khan. Currently, Khan, who is serving a three-year sentence due to his conviction in the Toshakhana case, is under investigation for multiple cases involving charges of sedition and violations of anti-terrorism laws.

These charges against Khan include sections 121 (waging or attempting to wage war or abetting waging of war against Pakistan), 131 (abetting mutiny or attempting to seduce a soldier, sailor, or airman from his duty), and 146 (rioting).

Khan underwent interrogation for additional charges, which encompass sections 120, 120-A, 120-B, 121-A, 505, 153, 153-A, 153-B, and 107 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). These pertain to his alleged involvement in attacks on Askari Tower, Shadman police station, and the burning of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) offices in Lahore’s Model Town, as well as Jinnah House Lahore.

The JIT, led by the DIG (Investigations) of Lahore, sought permission to interrogate and arrest Imran Khan in relation to an FIR registered by the police concerning the attack on Jinnah House.

In order to investigate Khan’s potential role in the ensuing violence, the police added charges on August 18 based on 9 May events. Subsequently, they approached the anti-terrorism court to secure permission to interrogate the PTI leader.

The court’s Judge Ejaz Ahmad Buttar granted this request, thereby allowing the police to proceed with the interrogation.
