LAHORE: In a recent development, the Governor of Punjab has taken prompt action by establishing a single-member tribunal to conduct an exhaustive investigation into the Islamia University Bahawalpur scandal. The aim is to ensure transparent inquiry and undertake stringent measures to punish the abusers.
A notification issued by the Punjab governor has revealed that Justice Sardar Mohammad Sarfraz Dogar, a seasoned legal expert renowned for his dedication to upholding justice, will lead the newly formed tribunal.
The formal announcement of the tribunal’s creation indicates the initiation of a comprehensive and impartial inquiry into the alleged instances of abuse and drug misuse within the university.
The primary objective of this tribunal is to thoroughly investigate the distressing events that have given rise to serious concerns regarding the safety and welfare of students at Islamia University Bahawalpur.
The authorities have explicitly stated that they will take stringent measures against individuals found responsible for committing acts of abuse or engaging in drug-related activities within the university.
Islamia University Bahawalpur Scandal Takes A New Turn
Earlier, FIA initiated an inquiry against the administration of Islamia University Bahawalpur. It has included the names of the accused individuals involved in the scandal on the Exit Control List (ECL).
According to the FIA Deputy Director, the list of individuals placed on the ECL includes former Vice Chancellor Athar Mehboob, former Director of Finance Abu Bakr, and former Chief Security Officer, among others.
The FIA has indicated that a comprehensive investigation will cover all financial transactions conducted by the university. The FIA said that stringent measures will be taken against those found guilty.
In a related development, Professor Naveed Akhtar, the acting Vice Chancellor of Islamia University Bahawalpur, revealed that they have suspended and detained the university’s Chief Security Officer.
