Local singer appeals to Interim PM for restoration of Panjara Bridge

ISLAMABAD: The interim PM took to his official X handle and wrote, “Orders have been issued to the institutions concerned for the reconstruction of Panjara Bridge.” The prime minister assured that the longstanding issue faced by the people of Balochistan will be addressed soon.

This decision from the PM followed a unique approach by singer Gul Meer Jamali, who made a request to the premier through a viral song on social media. In the song, Jamali urged the prime minister, who also belongs to Balochistan’s Killa Saifullah district, to “fulfill his responsibility towards Balochistan.”

The well-known Pinjra Bridge in the Bolan region of Balochistan, located around 115 kilometers southeast of Quetta, was washed away by torrential rains. The Panjara Bridge was a crucial link on the Quetta-Sukkur Highway that crossed the Bolan River.

After last year’s floods, the bridge was temporarily restored, and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif visited the site to commend the construction efforts

Nonetheless, heavy rainfall in April this year swept away the temporary bridge, and repairs have not been undertaken thus far. As a result, high water levels in the Bolan River following rainfall have left travelers stranded in Bolan for extended periods.

Another Fresh Spell Of Monsoon Rains Starting In Pakistan

The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) predicted a series of monsoon rains across the country.

The Met Office has issued the latest weather advisory, indicating that moderate monsoon currents originating from the Arabian Sea are poised to reach the upper regions of the country, commencing from the night of August 22.

Furthermore, a westerly wave is expected to enter these areas on August 23.

Under the influence of these systems, the Met Office anticipates rain and thundershowers in the following areas: Kashmir (Neelum Valley, Muzaffarabad, Poonch, Hattian, Bagh, Haveli, Sudhanoti, Kotli, Bhimber, Mirpur), Gilgit Baltistan (Diamir, Astore, Ghizer, Skardu, Hunza, Gilgit, Ghanche, Shigar), Murree, Galliyat, Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, and Hafizabad.

The forecast highlights the likelihood of heavy showers occurring in various regions between August 23 and August 27, interspersed with intermittent breaks.
