11 Cases Registered for Jaranwala Vandalism with Terrorism and Blasphemy Allegations

ISLAMABAD: On August 17, 2023, a man is seen walking amidst the debris of houses that were set on fire along a street near Saint John Church in Jaranwala, situated on the outskirts of Faisalabad.

In relation to the Jaranwala violence and vandalism case, authorities have filed 11 additional cases invoking terrorism and blasphemy provisions.

These cases involve over 1,000 individuals who have been implicated for offenses like vandalism, arson, and meddling in government affairs.

The police are actively conducting raids to apprehend more suspects.

Earlier on Wednesday, authorities lodged five additional cases related to the violence and vandalism that took place in a Christian colony in Jaranwala.

These cases targeted 750 suspects, and efforts are underway to apprehend them through ongoing raids.

Moreover, the Jaranwala Saddar police station registered these cases under various sections, including charges of terrorism and vandalism.

The total tally of cases filed in Jaranwala has now reached 10.

Meanwhile, WAPDA and KAPCO have announced plans to reconstruct the homes destroyed in the Jaranwala incident.

Concurrently, the district administration and the provincial government are collaboratively conducting a survey of the damaged residences.

Meanwhile, Blome reaffirmed the United States’ support for free and fair elections to be conducted in accordance with Pakistan’s laws. 

The US Ambassador Blome reiterated that choosing Pakistan’s future leaders is for the Pakistani people to decide. The US Ambassador Blome stated this in a press statement issued to media on Thursday after his meeting with the CEC.
