PTI lawyer handed over to the army for his trial in the military court in the May 9 violence case, LHC told

LAHORE/ISLAMABAD: During a hearing at the Lahore High Court (LHC), it was revealed that Haider Majeed, a lawyer associated with Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), had been transferred to the military for trial regarding his alleged participation in the vandalism incident at Jinnah House on May 9.

Lawyer Haider Majeed’s father filed a petition in the LHC on Saturday, seeking the recovery of his son. In response to the petition, the disclosure of his alleged involvement and arrest, alongside Barrister Hassaan Niazi – the nephew of PTI Chairman Imran Khan – on August 13, was made.

However, Justice Sultan Tanveer of the LHC presided over the hearing of the petition filed by the father of Haider. The Lahore police furnished a report to the court, confirming that the accused had been handed over to the military authorities.

The report indicated that the officials of Sarwar Road Police Station in Lahore got custody of Niazi and Haider from Abbottabad’s Mirpur police station in a terrorism case. The report highlighted that the army’s commanding officer issued two letters, signifying the transfer of both suspects to the military for “investigation and inquiry,” following the provisions outlined in the Pakistan Army Act 1952.

Additional Advocate General Ghulam Sarwar Nihang submitted the report to the court. Following the submission of the report, the court adjourned the hearing.
