ISLAMABAD: The police have arrested another prime suspect, Robert Charles, in connection with the Jaranwala tragedy, with the assistance of CCTV footage.
Police sources have revealed that Robert Charles is the chairman of a foreign NGO. With the help of CCTV footage, police officials are probing the involvement of Charles in this incident. What was Charles doing in that area before and after the incident? Police teams are probing this aspect.
Meanwhile, on Monday, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar undertook a one-day visit to Jaranwala to demonstrate solidarity with the Christian community. During the visit, the caretaker prime minister toured the burnt churches and met with survivors to convey his support.
Subsequently, Kakar distributed compensation cheques to those affected by the incident. The PM was accompanied by Caretaker Punjab Chief Minister Mohsin Naqvi and federal ministers. Furthermore, the inspector general (IG) provided updates on the investigation regarding the individuals implicated in the incident.
Caretaker PM Says Jaranwala Incident Highlights ‘Prevailing Societal Ailment’
In response to the tragic incident involving the torching of churches in Jaranwala, Faisalabad district, Caretaker Prime Minister Anwaarul Haq Kakar expressed his deep sorrow. He stated that such incidents bring to light a prevailing societal ailment. During a visit to Jaranwala, where violent mobs had set fire to 19 churches over blasphemy allegations on August 16, the Prime Minister addressed the Christian community and emphasized the importance of unity among different faiths.
He assured that if any individual engages in injustices against the lives or property of minorities, the state will stand in solidarity with the minority brethren. The Prime Minister stressed that the Christian community is an integral part of the country and emphasized the shared responsibility of safeguarding the rights of minorities. He quoted verses from the Holy Quran that demonstrate the respect accorded to figures such as Hazrat Isa (AS) and Bibi Maryam.
