ISLAMABAD: The Islamabad District and Sessions Court has granted a one-day physical remand for PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mahmood Qureshi in relation to the cypher misplacement case. The court has directed the investigating officer to present Shah Mahmood Qureshi again tomorrow for further proceedings.
The FIR against Qureshi was filed under the recently enacted Official Secrets Act. The magistrate conducted an in-camera hearing of the case, with only relevant lawyers present.
Previously, the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) had requested a 14-day physical remand for Qureshi, and the court had reserved its decision. Before appearing in court, Shah Mahmood Qureshi met with former PTI leader Shireen Mazari.
The FIR, registered on August 15, implicated PTI Chairman Imran Khan and Shah Mahmood Qureshi in the alleged misplacement of a diplomatic cable from the US. The charges were brought under sections 5 and 9 of the Official Secrets Act 1923, in conjunction with Section 34 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC). The FIR was initiated following an application by Interior Secretary Yousaf Naseem Khokhar.

Earlier today, Asad Umar, the former secretary-general of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), has been apprehended by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA). Asad Umar was taken into custody from Islamabad in connection with the cypher probe case.
The FIA’s counter-terrorism wing had initiated a case against Imran Khan, who was removed from office through a no-confidence motion. The investigation established his intentional involvement in the misuse of a classified document, leading to his arrest.
