Bushra Bibi, the wife of former Pakistan Prime Minister and Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, has expressed concerns about her husband’s safety and security while in Attock jail. In a letter addressed to the Punjab home secretary, she voiced apprehensions that Imran Khan “can be poisoned” during his imprisonment in Attock jail.
Bushra Bibi mentioned that the court directed the authorities to transfer her husband to Adiala jail in Rawalpindi. She claimed that his imprisonment in Attock jail lacked justification according to the law. Imran Khan was imprisoned after being sentenced to three years in jail in the Toshakhana case. Additionally, he was banned from politics for five years.
In her letter, Bushra Bibi requested B-class facilities for her husband. She argued that such facilities were not available to Imran Khan in Attock’s jail. She further noted Imran Khan faced two assassination attempts in the past. The culprits involved had not been apprehended yet. She expressed fear that his life might still be in danger and that he could be poisoned in jail.
Bushra Bibi cited her husband’s status as a former prime minister and demanded that he should be allowed to consume home-cooked food while in prison. Referring to the jail manual, she pointed out that all facilities should have been provided to Khan within 48 hours. However, even after 12 days had passed, these facilities had not been provided.
Last week, the PTI Core Committee also raised concerns about the possibility of Imran Khan suffering from “slow poisoning” and demanded arrangements to provide him with homemade food and water instantly.
Imran Khan, aged 70, has been a central figure in Pakistan’s political landscape. He was ousted from the position of prime minister through a no-confidence vote. Despite denying any wrongdoing, he was arrested and subsequently imprisoned.
