ISLAMABAD: Rizwana, the young domestic helper who had reportedly endured severe and brutal mistreatment by the wife of an Islamabad civil judge, provided her statement to the Islamabad police, today.
On July 25, the case came to the forefront when Rizwana was transferred to a hospital in Lahore due to severe injuries.
In response to the reports, the police promptly initiated legal proceedings against the wife of the civil judge, alleging her involvement in brutally torturing a 14-year-old girl who worked as a domestic helper in their household.
Only a day before, reports had surfaced implicating both the wife and the civil judge in the mistreatment of the 14-year-old domestic helper, as alleged by Rizwana’s grandmother.
Judge’s Wife’s Cruelty Exposed in Minor’s Testimony
Today, Rizwana provided her statement to the police, in which she asserted that Somia, the judge’s wife, used to physically abuse her using sticks, iron rods, and various other objects.
“The housewife used to kick and slap her in rage,” police reported quoting the minor. “She also used to hold her hair and bang her head against the wall.”
Rizwana further said in her statement that whenever the judge’s family used to go out of the residence, she locked Rizwana in a room for days without food or water.
Rizwana said, “I was not allowed to meet my parents. The judge’s wife stood next to me whenever I talked to my parents on the phone.”
Additionally, the young girl disclosed that Somia would frequently issue threats and warnings, coercing her into silence about the savage beatings she endured.
She said, “They did not even bandage my wounds.”
The police state that the civil judge had not yet presented himself before a joint investigation team.
It’s worth noting that the Lahore High Court Chief Justice, Muhammad Ameer Bhatti, acted by relieving the civil judge of his position and designating him as Officer on Special Duty (OSD).
