He takes the position of Asad Majeed Khan, who is retiring from government service
ISLAMABAD: Muhammad Syrus Sajjad Qazi, the Special Secretary for Foreign Affairs, has been appointed as the 32nd Foreign Secretary of Pakistan. He takes over from Ambassador Asad Majeed Khan, who has concluded his government service upon reaching the superannuation age.
On Wednesday, the Foreign Office (FO) announced the appointment of Qazi via a tweet on the ‘X’ platform.
In 2021, Asad Majeed, who had retired and served as Pakistan’s ambassador to the United States, sent a diplomatic cable referred to as a “cypher.”
This cable pointed directly to a US State Department official who issued threats of severe repercussions unless they removed then-prime minister Imran Khan from power.
Qazi boasts an illustrious and extensive career within the foreign service.
He has undertaken diverse roles at the FO over the course of his tenure.
