Desecration of Holy Quran in Sweden Occurs amidst heavy police presence

ISLAMABAD: Within the span of a week, the Holy Quran was once again subjected to desecration, this time in front of the Royal Palace in Sweden. The police were present at the site during the incident.

Amidst the crowd, numerous individuals arrived with their own megaphones, effectively overshadowing the two men who desecrated the Quran, as counterprotesters raised their voices.

In the crowd, a group dressed in firefighter-themed attire made their presence felt. They chanted “extinguish the hate” and urged bystanders to amplify their voices through megaphones.

Those who received authorization from Swedish authorities to desecrate the Quran were allotted a one-hour timeframe. During this period, the police permitted the collection of holy Quran pages.

Numerous men swiftly moved to retrieve the pages from the ground and the walls leading to the Royal Palace.

Former prime minister Shehbaz Sharif asserted that such incidents establish a vile, sinister, and malicious intent. This intent aims to wound the sentiments of Muslims worldwide.

He wrote on X, “Yet another incident of the desecration of the Holy Quran, this time in front of the royal palace in Sweden is highly disturbing.”

He also regretted the lack of action by the Swedish government to stop such acts.

Former prime minister Shehbaz  stated, “Equally disturbing is the lack of action on the part of Swedish government to check such incidents through strict enforcement of law. Mere expression of regret and condemnation is not enough.”

On July 26, a collection of individuals identifying as anti-Islam activists committed an act of desecration upon the Holy Quran.

This event took place in the vicinity of the Egyptian and Turkish embassies in Copenhagen, provoking outrage among Muslims globally.
