Parked cars within the police station premises caught fire
ISLAMABAD: Police have reported that a lightning strike led to the collapse of Attock Khurd police station’s building, resulting in injuries to at least five police officers.
Details reveal that a portion of the building crumbled due to the force of the lightning strike, resulting in the officials being buried under debris.
Five officials were left severely injured, trapped beneath the rubble. This unfortunate event occurred amidst a thunderstorm that swept through the area.
Eyewitnesses noted the tense atmosphere as dark clouds converged and lightning illuminated the sky. Shortly afterward, a deafening thunderclap was succeeded by a blinding lightning flash that impacted the police station building.
The local authorities and rescue teams were promptly mobilized to respond to the scene.
Afterwards, the hospital admitted the injured individuals in critical condition, and they are currently receiving medical assistance.
Furthermore, the intense lightning strike ignited parked cars within the police station premises. This required firefighters, who were already at the scene due to the building collapse, to shift their focus to extinguishing the vehicle fires.
Initially, due to the sudden and catastrophic nature of the collapse, suspicions arose about an explosion.
As a result, the authorities summoned the bomb disposal squad to investigate the cause of the building’s collapse. However, subsequent findings confirmed that the collapse resulted from a direct lightning strike.
